Ryhall Library Action Group

Working together for the community

Mission statement

“To keep Ryhall Library in its existing building to enable continued provision of library services with a community space.”
We will work together, with regular meetings, as to how this can be achieved  – whether under RCC, or other options…!

Save the library

On Tuesday 7th January 2025, the village was suddenly made aware that the RCC Cabinet meeting, to be held less than a week later, included the proposal to close Ryhall’s library. The shock brought together our Action Group in a bid to help save the library.

Voice of the community

The Action Group is made up of many interested local residents who have come together to work towards a common goal for the community. Its members bring a wealth of skills, experience and time to work together in achieving its current aim.

Why we formed

Less than a day after learning about the potential closure, over 30 local residents met in the library to lend a hand in taking action. Those residents, plus others, have come together to form Ryhall Library Action Group, with one main aim: to retain the library building including the library service and the community space.

Actions so far

Over 30 local people met on the day after the news. As a result, we took paper petitions to local businesses and people’s homes via door-knocking; over 1,300 signatures were obtained and then delivered during a well-attended demo in front of RCC’S Catmose offices before the Cabinet meeting only six days later.

Our campaign

Our Action Group met regularly to act quickly to achieve our Mission: to save the library and retain a community space. We are fortunate to have many passionate folk, working in smaller teams to research, survey, draw up costings and keep our campaign in the press. We only had a very short time to save our library.
